The story itself is well documented. The Wichita Eagle ran two stories about this very event on August 4th and 7th, 2001. According to several eye-witnesses, corn husks did fall from the sky.

According to the Eagle's story, husks fell near Central and 37th Street North along the Woodlawn area in east Wichita.

Another Eagle story stated that something similar happened in Kansas City in the 1950s, but that particular event was caused by a tornado. The Eagle article referring to the 2001 event in Wichita said there were no tornadoes in Kansas, or the midwest, at the time.

Several witnesses and experts, including Air Force officials and weather gurus, said they had no idea what could have caused the event. Many have concluded that the corn must have fallen out of an airplane. It is still a mystery to this very day.
