From the KAKEland Weatherplex, Meteorologist Blake Smith answers tonight's question.

"Two words for you, Rocky Mountains. When we have storm systems interact with the mountains. we tend to see a little low pressure system develop on the east side. We are close enough that we always feel the effects of that. That's why the winds are always so strong."

Simply put, being this close to the Rocky Mountains brings the stronger winds into Kansas.
