The Wichita River Festival starts May 9th. Singer Colbie Caillat will perform at the West Bank Stage and tickets to the concert will cost $10 each, in addition to the purchase of the button.
Although it is unusual for the River Festival to charge extra for concerts, it has been done in the past. The last time concert tickets cost extra was in 2002 when Hootie and the Blowfish played downtown.
Susan Burchill, Director of Marketing for the Wichita River Festival said that they want to continue improving the festival by bringing in better bands and better entertainment for the masses.
The additional expense also has to do with the buttons and the growing expense of putting on the festival each year.
The price of the button, which is five dollars, hasn't changed in three years and last year, more than 385,000 people attended the festival, though only 130,000 buttons were sold.
Burchill said that most of the people who attend the festival don't buy a button.
