Police say gang violence is to blame for a shooting that left two people in the hospital. It happened at Club Rodeo in east Wichita overnight, where managers say they've been working to curb crime and keep their business safe.

"We're very very proactive in trying to prevent things just like this," said Club Rodeo General Manager Eric Ragain.

But around 1:30 a.m. Friday, even off duty police officers on site couldn't prevent several suspects from opening fire on alleged rival gang members. Club Rodeo hires six to eight officers every week to keep watch, along with their more than two dozen bouncers. It's just one step the club says it's taking to try and keep the business crime free.

"It's kind of our relentless pursuit to try and keep everybody safe," said Ragain.

The club also says it recently had the police department hold a meeting with employees, educating them on how to identify gang members. Managers say they sometimes have problems with gangs when they hold 'hip-hop night' on Thursdays, which the club says it has even considered doing away with.

"It's kind of that fine line that as a business owner we have to kind of walk and just try to maintain and keep our doors open," said Ragain. "Unfortunately the position we're in, country just is not that popular."

Friday morning's shooting happened in the parking lot. Police say the suspects were arrested shortly after it happened.

"Several witnesses pointed these individuals out at the scene as the shooters and they were stopped by officers as they were trying to exit the club," said Wichita Police Lt. Kenneth Landwehr.

Five people were arrested after police say 15 to 20 shots were fired. The two victims, both men in their twenties, went to the hospital in critical condition but are expected to survive.

Wichita Police say gang violence at a local nightclub is to blame for a shooting that sent two people to the hospital with critical injuries.

The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. Friday outside of Club Rodeo in East Wichita.

Police say two rival gangs got into an argument inside the club that carried over into the parking lot once the club closed. Authorities say 10 to 15 rounds of shots were fired into a car, hitting two men in their twenties.

One man was shot in the head and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Another man was shot in the wrist. He was also taken to the hospital to be treated for his wound. Both men are expected to survive.

Police stopped a car trying to leave the scene. Three people were arrested for attempted murder and two for shooting into an occupied vehicle.
