UPDATE: Friday, October 26th, 2012
Two men were killed only hours apart in two separate traffic accidents in Butler County.
The first accident happened late Thursday night on Highway 77 near SW120th south of Augusta. Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet says a car heading north on 77 left the roadway and rolled twice. A passerby later saw a man outside the car and called for help.
When emergency crews arrived, they found 38-year-old Charles White of Douglass dead at the scene. Two girls, a 2-year-old and 3-year-old, were also in the vehicle but suffered only minor injuries. They were taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment.
Another passerby saw a second accident shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday morning, on K-254 at Meadowlark just east of Benton. A Honda Accord had rolled several times, and was still in the roadway.
Sheriff Herzet said the driver, 18-year-old Austin Taylor of Valley Center, was not wearing a seat belt and had been ejected from the car. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car.
Sheriff's deputies are still investigating what led to both crashes.
