A Kansas teen is in the running to win a nationwide competition, but he needs your help.
In this contest, Dodge City senior Cale Morrow is hoping his business pitch will land him in first place.
"I've created a business called Believable Inc.," Morrow said. "It's unique in the way that it helps children overcome the fear of public speaking by teaching them basic theater techniques that boost their confidence."
From high school senior to businessman, it's the path Cale Morrow is hoping a nationwide competition will lead him on.
"I definitely know that my business can be successful and I know that it can change lives," Morrow said.
As part of the competition, applicants had to create a 60- second video clip promoting their business.
We spoke with Cale Monday via Skype, who discussed why he created this business.
He says that his business currently consists of a summer camp that uses theater to teach about public speaking. Eventually, he would like to expand outside of Dodge City, and create a program that could be mailed out.
"I got involved in theater, and it really helped me to come out of my shell and conquer my fear," Morrow said. "Now I actually enjoy getting up in front of other people. I'm living proof that my program works."
The competition prizes would help Cale reach his business goals.
If he wins the video aspect, Cale will receive $2,500 but winning a speech competition in New York City would make this entrepreneur $25,000 richer.
"To win that much money and actually be able to start it it would kind of feel like coming full circle," Morrow said.
The Dodge City senior is competing against students from places like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City, but he's hoping that his small town support will propel him to first place.
"I think it goes down to just the small town feel of it all," Morrow said. "It's been incredible and there's not a single person in Dodge City who has not voted for me. Everywhere I go people stop and talk to me about it."
The voting results were closed to the public on Thursday so that the winner would remain a surprise, but at that time Cale was in first place.
To keep him there, he needs your help. If you'd like to vote, we have posted a link below. The voting ends tonight at midnight.
