Sedgwick County fire investigators say an early morning house fire in Park City was caused by discarded fireworks.
It happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 6300 block of North Upchurch. When firefighters arrived, they found a truck fully involved. The front of the home had also caught fire, and flames were spreading to the roof.
Neighbors said a police officer who was on duty heard an explosion and then turned on his sirens to wake up the neighbors. The officer and a neighbor then went door-to-door evacuating everyone from their homes.
The homeowners and their 17-month-old baby were able to safely escape through the back of the house.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire fairly quickly and no one was hurt. No damage estimate is available yet.
Investigators are looking into whether the homeowners properly disposed of their fireworks.
