The economy is picking up. There are more job openings, more job fairs and of course, more job interviews happening. Hiring managers hear all kinds of things and some of the comments prospective employees make are well, downright dumb. Kelly Eggers of has a list of the top dumb things said during job interviews.

1. "My husband and I were fighting."

My apologies for being late, my husband and I were fighting. It happens all the time. The woman who said this even told the manager that's how she lost her last job.

2. "I'm in anger management because I hit my former co-worker."

Yes, somebody actually said that. Major character flaws, particularly when they are of the physical harm variety, shouldn't be brought up in an interview.

3. "Well you're cute too."

This was said after a male applicant had asked another job interviewer out on a date. She excused herself and the second interviewer told him he would not be hired. That's when he said "you're cute too."

4. "My old boss was a monster."

That may be true but you don't want to tell the new boss that the old boss was a monster."

5. "I just took a Xanax."

When the hiring manager accused the applicant why she was speaking so slowly this was her response. It's not a good idea to medicate yourself for an interview.

6. "That other guy you're interviewing, think twice."

The other applicant may not be too swift, but you should concentrate on your qualities not others faults. That doesn't reflect well on your character.

7. "Sorry, I'm having a hot flash."

Menopause is a tough time for women but this is the classic example of TMI. A simple, "my it's hot, i've been running around a lot this morning" will usually do the trick. That way, you aren't putting both you and the interviewer in an awkward position.
