UPDATE: Tuesday, June 26, 2012

The cause of a house fire in the 2000 block of S. Rosalie has been determined, said Wichita Fire Department officials. But since the owners were out of town, the cause has not been released.

The fire was reported about 1:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of South Rosalie, in a neighborhood northeast of Pawnee and Rock Road. It was reported that the home is a vacant rental property.

Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief Ernie Schuler said flames were shooting from the attic of the empty house when firefighters arrived. They were able to bring the fire under control quickly, Schuler said, but not before it caused at least $75,000 in damage.

Schuler said it appeared the fire started in the kitchen, but the cause was not obvious.
