Turning something old into something new again. That's the idea behind a new downtown home furnishing store.

Mr. Diggs opened it's doors in March, a new, quirky shop located in downtown Wichita. But for the seven months the shop has been open, most of the time it's been closed.

The space is filled with antique and refurbished items. The owner of the store specializes in tracking down and restoring one-of-a-kind items.

"People like shopping here knowing that they're getting that one item that no one else has," said store creator Annette Shankle. "Of course small accessories and things like that there's some duplication, but most of the items that are in our store are a onesie, and knowing that you own that onesie makes it more special."

Tracking down those special items, however, takes time and makes the open sign on the building a rare sight. The store is only up one weekend a month.

"The concept is being done in other markets and we just decided to bring it to Wichita," Shankle said.

Just because the store's not open, doesn't mean work's not being done. Shankle and her employees do most of the refurbishing themselves, plus the extra time is necessary to find the unique and interesting items that her customers are looking for.

"People love to go to estate sales, but they just don't have the time," Shankle said. "Or they like those unique items but they want somebody to do the shopping for them because, again it's the time thing, so we're just trying to do that for them."

The store features all types of styles with each month bringing a different theme.

"When the Olympics was on, we did a lot of the Paris-theme upstairs for back to school," Shankle said. "For college students, we did KU and K-State, and WSU dorm rooms."

With re-purposed antiques and funky finishes, your search for the perfect piece may be just a Digg away.

"We try to do it all so when you walk in the door, it's not just for one customer, it's for all customers," Shankle said.

Mr. Diggs is open Friday and Saturday this weekend from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The next time it will be open is the weekend of November 8th.
The shop is located at the corner of the intersection of 1st Street and St. Francis.
