A senior al-Qaida leader and member of Osama bin Laden's inner circle is due in a New York City courtroom to face a charge he plotted against Americans.

Prosecutors say bin Laden spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith lauded the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and warned there would be more.

Abu Ghaith is to appear Friday in federal court in Manhattan to enter a plea to one count of conspiracy to kill Americans. His attorney had no comment on the case.

Abu Ghaith was born in Kuwait and is bin Laden's son-in-law.
Authorities say he was captured in Jordan over the last week.

President Barack Obama's administration has sought to charge senior al-Qaida suspects in American federal courts instead of military tribunals, but Republicans in Congress don't want high-threat terror suspects brought into the United States.
