Mary and Duane Hall
Hatteberg's People

December 8, 2002--For most of us,
Christmas comes but once a year. But,
on Hatteberg's People, that's not the case for Mary and Duane Hall of
Mulvane. They have Christmas
year-round, downstairs, but this year, things are a little different. |
 |
Mary and Duane have devoted an entire room of
their home...and it's a large room to Christmas.
In that room, it is Christmas year-round. |
|
From floor to ceiling hundreds of
Santa Clauses sit waiting for the big day.
All kinds, from all lands are part of her two thousand-piece
collection. |
 |
| What is different this year, is that Mary can't get
down to see them. In
November, she had her leg operated on twice and is recuperating.
Stairs are definitely out for this Christmas season. |
 |
 |
So her husband Duane is the tour
guide. He points to their
very first Santa they purchased prior to 1980.
He knows almost as much about it as
Mary. |
| The only thing he doesn't do is 'dust'
the collection. Mary says
that's OK, God made the dust so it is permissible to have. |
| It has to be frustrating for Mary to sit at the top of
the stairs in a wheelchair while others peer over her vast Santa
collection. She says that's
OK, sometimes things happen in life and this is 'just one of those
things'. |
 |
Downstairs, Santa's are
dancing, laughing, snoring, singing and generally having a party in this
Mulvane basement.
They have guests from all over who have signed their guest book.
Most are amazed at the size of this collection.
Mary quickly adds that she is far from done collecting. |
 |
As the snow flew outside, this Mulvane
basement felt like Santa's Kansas home on the prairie. |
