Tornado Relief for Greensburg

6-4-07 - Combining promotional efforts to raise funds for Greensburg Tornado Relief, KAKE TV & Clear Channel Radio presented a check for $103,000 on Monday to the Salvation Army. The total included $60,000 from a benefit concert by American Idol finalist Phil Stacey and $42,000 from donations made at area Papa Johns Pizza locations via the “Kettles for Kansans” campaign.

All funds collected will provide direct monetary assistance to area Kansans whose lives have been devastated by the storms that devastated Greensburg, KS on May 4, 2007.

“When people donate to the Salvation Army to be used for disaster relief, the funds go 100% towards that disaster. Your money is going where you want it to go,” said Tim Brown, Development & Community Relations Manager for the Salvation Army.

Ticket sales from the concert raised about $40,000 with an additional $10,000 donation coming from local Edward Jones Company financial advisors. An offering during the concert collected an additional $10,000. In-kind donations totaling more than $50,000 made the concert possible. Yingling Aircraft provided a round-trip private charter for Stacey from his home in Jacksonville, Florida.
