Julio Martinez is covered with cuts, scrapes, bruises, and a mark on his right hand, a graze from a bullet.
He says he feels lucky to be alive.

Martinez and his girlfriend Aby Nunez drove up to his father's mobile home Saturday night in the 4800 block of south Meridian to find four men inside burglarizing the place. Martinez says he wasn't going to let them get away with it, so he confronted the men.

"I remember getting hit, super hard," said Martinez. "I fell back."

The blow knocked him out.

Nunez turned to see her boyfriend on the ground, "He took out a gun and pointed at me," she said.

That's when she says the man fired one shot grazing Martinez's hand.

Nunez parked the car she was driving in front of the suspect's car hoping to block it in, but the thieves rammed it causing damage to the back and side. The suspects then led police on a neighborhood chase.

Martinez says the thieves got away with a tv, jewelry, his father's rent money and 15 pairs of Nike and Jordan shoes.
