WICHITA, Kan. -- Two people have been arrested and charged in connection to a weekend shooting at a house party that left one person dead and a second person hurt.
Christopher Cooper, 19, was booked Sunday and 20-year-old Dametrius Williams was booked Monday in connection to the early Saturday morning shooting.
In Sedgwick County District Court Thursday, both men were formally charged. Cooper was charged with first degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm. His bond has been set at $500,000.
Williams was also charged with first degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm. He also had outstanding warrants. His bond is set at $1 million.
The shooting happened Saturday morning in the 900 block of South Cypress. A 16-year-old was hosting a party with alcohol while his parents were out of town.
Wichita Police say groups of rival gangs crashed the party. A fight eventually broke out and shots were fired, striking two people.
The man who was killed was identified as 20-year-old Juan Orona, who was found in his car parked in the street. Police say he's a documented gang member.
A 17-year-old was shot in the chest, but is expected to recover.
A preliminary hearing for Cooper and Williams is scheduled for July 10.
Police are still looking for 19-year-old Ruben Higadera who is considered armed and dangerous.
The search is on for a man police say may be connected to a deadly shooting Saturday morning near Lincoln and Webb.
Police say Ruben Higadera, 19, is wanted for questioning after the shooting that left a 20-year old man dead and sent a 17-year old man to the hospital in critical condition. According to records, Higadera has a felony warrant for a probation violation through Sedgwick County for aggravated robbery. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Wichita Police officers say they got a call of a shooting around 3 a.m. in the 900 block of S. Cypress.
Neighbors tell KAKE News there was a large house party there. They heard at least 10 to 12 shots as a gunfight spilled into the street.
"It sounded like popping noises and then a big bang," Tyler Kasney said. "Me and my wife didn't know what it was at first but I had a gut feeling something was wrong."
When officers arrived on scene, they say they found chaos.
"They found a bunch of people running and vehicles leaving," Sgt. Kevin Kochenderfer said.
Police say they found a man inside a car with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Ron Hunt said.
A 17-year-old was found inside the home. He had been shot in the chest and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Police did not provide an update Saturday on his condition.
Higadera is 5’6” with a medium build and weighs about 150 pounds.
Police asking if that if people see Higadera’s to not approach him but rather call 911 immediately.
