WICHITA, Kan. — Two people are in custody after police say a fight led to a house fire - with children inside.
It began shortly after 1 p.m. Monday at a home in the 1500 block of North Erie when an argument broke out between a woman who lives there and her visiting boyfriend.
Police say the situation escalated when the man poured gasoline on the floor, then lit it with a cigarette. He then went downstairs and allegedly poured gas on his girlfriend.
The woman's roommate was also home during the fight. At that point, the roommate took her two children, ages four and five, and the other woman's 2-year-old child, and left the home.
After that, officers say the couple made up, and called 911 about the fire. Crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire, and there was minimal damage to the home.
Police were also dispatched, but the suspect left before they arrived. The woman reportedly gave officers a false description of her boyfriend so they wouldn't find him. Once they realized this, police found him watching the scene from a porch across the street.
Both the man and woman were arrested. Police were also told there were several guns in the home, but are waiting on a warrant to enter.
No one was hurt.
