Man arrested after barricading himself in Newton home

NEWTON, Kan. -- A man was arrested Thursday evening after police say he barricaded himself in a Newton home.

Harvey County dispatchers said they received a report around 6 p.m., of someone making threats via text messages. When officers arrived in the 1000 block of North Walnut, a man had barricaded himself in the home.

Officers entered the home and took the suspect into custody about two hours later.

Dispatchers could not confirm whether the man was armed. He was taken for a mental health evaluation.

No one was hurt. The suspect's name was not released.
