WICHITA, Kan. — The man who was mistakenly released from jail last week has been captured.
Chad A. Engel, 33, was arrested over the weekend by Ellsworth County sheriff's deputies at Kanoplis Lake.
The information leading to his arrest came from a tip to McPherson County Crime Stoppers.
Engel was mistakenly released from the Sedgwick County Jail a week ago.
The search is on for a man mistakenly released from the Sedgwick County Jail. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is looking for 33-year-old Chad A. Engel.
Engel was arrested for traffic charges on July 2, booked on those as well as an active drug warrant out of McPherson County.
Tuesday afternoon, Engel was released from Sedgwick County on the traffic charges and was waiting in the booking area to be picked up by McPherson County deputies. Because Engel was wearing street clothes, a detention deputy mistakenly thought he was supposed to be released and escorted him out of the building.
Officials then realized the mistake and notified law enforcement, but he has still not been found.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Engel or has other information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 660-3960.
