The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office is using new technology to track burglaries.
So far this year, 167 homes have been hit by thieves. Detectives and deputies have been working for months to try to stop burglary rings out in the county and now they have a new tool which may help.
Deputies have hundreds of miles to patrol in Sedgwick County, but thanks to a new tracking system, they may be better able to stop the thieves in their tracks. A new mapping system shows geographic patterns for all crimes in Sedgwick County. The system show all burglaries going back to 2005. Deputies can use the system to track patterns in crimes in areas of the county and hopefully use that information to track down burglars.
Detectives began using these maps just two days ago. Soon, the public will be able to log on and find most of the same data.
