WICHITA, Kan. — If you are holding a garage sale this weekend, be on the lookout for counterfeit cash.
Wichita police say they have seen a couple of cases in the last few months. They want to protect you from becoming a victim.
The Secret Service says crooks are taking every opportunity to get rid of funny money and get real cash for change. That's something Jim Jaske is watching for during his garage sale.
"We have been really busy," said Jaske from his west Wichita sale. "You take the money and put it in the cash box and mark down."
He says it's hard to make time to check.
There are ways to make sure the cash is real. One way is to touch it, as money has a distinct texture. Also, you can buy a special pen to mark the bill to determine whether it's fake.
