Wichita Police are searching for suspects wanted in connection to a string of recent motorcycle thefts.

Authorities investigate more motorcycle theft crimes during the summer, but the number of stolen bike cases has spiked over the past couple of weeks. Thieves have taken 21 motorcycles in five days. They are targeting everything from Harley’s to sport bikes.

Police reports show motorcycle theft is becoming a big business. Often times, several thieves and a truck are used to make a quick getaway.

Isela Solis said she and her boyfriend were speechless when they noticed a tarp lying on the ground that once covered a bike.

“He always has it covered up unless he rides it,” she said. “No one knows what it looks like unless they saw him actually take off tarp and get off the bike.”

The loss was valued at $6,000. The couple said they will take extra precautions in the future, if they decide to replace the bike.

Ross Reed, from Mid-America Power Sports, said he tells riders to use a disc lock to keep the crimes from occurring. He said most thieves aren’t looking for a joyride.

“They aren't after the bikes, but the parts to sell after,” Reed said.
