WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita Police are investigating after a man stole a cash bag from an area Walmart store late last night.

Police tell KAKE News a man went to the store at Pawnee and Broadway around 10:15 Wednesday night and grabbed a cash bag while employees were changing out cash registers. One of the employees tried to get it back, but then saw the man had a handgun.

A 29-year-old customer heard the commotion and followed the suspect outside. He tried to grab the bag, but the suspect was able to get away in a blue van.

Officers found the van about two miles away, at Ida and Funston. Shortly after 2 a.m., a man who lives in the 1800 block of South Ellis went to feed his dog in his detached garage, then found an empty cash bag and a coat.

Police do have surveillance video, but it's not being made available at this point. The suspect is described as a black male with light skin complexion, about six feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark puffy coat and jeans.

On September 10 at the same Walmart, a suspect walked in around 10:45 p.m. as employees were emptying cash register and said, "You know what to do next." There was a struggle over the cash bag, and the suspect left empty-handed. Police are trying to determine if this was the same suspect.
