Nearly 25 years after Luther Alberson was killed, his murder remains unsolved. A jogger found the Vietnam veteran's body on October 3rd, 1982 near 85th Street North and Hillside in Wichita.
Luther's wife, Annie, said her husband had left the day before to hang out with friends near 9th and Ohio. When he didn't return home that night, she got worried.
Authorities suspected robbery might be a motive. Luther's watch and wallet were gone. Days earlier, he'd cashed his retirement check from the Army and had at least $500 cash in his pocket.
His truck was found near 9th and Ohio with the keys still inside.
Authorities believe whoever killed Luther likely ran into him sometime that Saturday evening. His truck was spotted around 9th and Ohio between 3 and 7 that night, and it was again seen at 21st and Piatt between 7:30 and 8:30. Witnesses remember seeing Luther's truck there, but no one saw Luther. Between 9 and 10 that evening the truck was back at 9th and Ohio.
Authorities believe Luther died from blunt force trauma. It's believed he was in the field less than 12 hours- making the time of his murder sometime during the night of Oct. 2nd.
