Wichita Police are looking for fresh information on a 15 year-old murder case that has gone cold. Steven Gerber was killed inside his apartment on December 8th, 1993. His body was found by a friend the next morning. Police have no good leads in the case and they're hoping you can help them out.
"The friend checked on him and realized that he should be there, but he wouldn't answer," says Wichita Police Detective Tim Relph. "He went to get the apartment manager and they found him murdered inside his home."
Gerber was 45 years-old when his life was cut short on that cold December night. He was found inside his own apartment, stabbed multiple times. Relph says there were a few things missing from his home, but the apartment had not been ransacked.
"This case has some very specific details. Some of those details, people may just know one thing and think it doesn't matter, but it may be that specific detail which could point us back in the direction of people who we've either looked into before or people who we haven't," says Relph.
There have been people of interest in the case, but without hard evidence, those people cannot be charged. He also says some people who have been interviewed may not have been completely honest.
"If honesty includes omission, then the people have been honest in what they've said," Relph says. "I don't know if those people have been completely open with everything they know."
If you have any information on who killed Steven Gerber, you can call Crimestoppers at 267-2111. If your tip leads to an arrest or conviction, you will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Nobody will ever ask your name.
