Crimestoppers Murder Mystery - Brandy Martin

Stay up-to-date with KAKE News:

On February 2, 1997, 20-year old Brandy Martin was killed at home when a bullet went through the back of her chair. Police said she was sitting in her living room chair while holding her 1-year old child when bullets began flying outside. Martin's other two children were sitting on the living room floor at the time but they were not hurt.

"She was a victim merely because she was at the residence that was targeted by this rival gang," Detective Clint Snyder said.

Snyder says Martin's brother was involved in a gang. The rival gang attacked Brandy's house near 16th and Fairview believing her brother lived there, but he did not.

"Apparently, Brandy was sitting on chair in front room with her back toward the front of the house that was shot up and was watching TV with children at the time this occurred," Snyder said.

The crime happened late at night under the cover of darkness. Snyder said there were no witnesses other than a neighbor who saw a dark colored car speeding away.

"We're pretty confident it was a rival gang, but we really don't know who and we've never had solid leads," Snyder said.

Detective Snyder says he believes the truth is out there and that someone knows who fired those shots from a high-powered rifle that pierced the walls, the chair and entered into Brandy Martin's back.
