A fight outside a Wichita nightclub in 2002 turned deadly when shots were fired outside in the parking lot. Police have never caught the killer.
Maurice Johnson was 27 years-old when he was killed outside a bar called Club XClusive on July 21st, 2002. His body was found two days later behind a fence on a nearby abandoned lot.
"There was apparently an argument of some sort outside in the lot," says Wichita Police Detective Robert Chisholm. "There were some shots fired and officers responded to that shooting."
Those officers did find one person who was injured, but that man recovered. However, when Johnson's family hadn't heard from him for a few days, they knew something was wrong.
Chisholm explains that the family knew Johnson had been at the club the night of the shooting incident. Therefore, they went back to look for him. They found his body behind a fence. It appears, Chisholm says, that Johnson had also been shot and collapsed as he tried to run away.
Police have a list of names of people who were at the club that night and Chisholm says he knows those people aren't being honest.
"They actually know. They don't just think," explains Chisholm. "These people saw it. They know the people involved. They're just not willing to come in and tell us what they saw."
