Woman Holds Up Clothing Business Over Exchange Dispute

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

A woman is taken into custody after using a handgun to force an exchange, over a pair of shoes.

It happened at N R Fashion, 3940 E. 13th St. North, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said a 36-year-old woman walked into the clothing business with a pair of shoes. She asked a sales clerk for an exchange, but the employee told the woman she could not make an exchange without a receipt.

The woman left the store leaving the shoes behind.

Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita police department, said the suspect later returned with a gun, asking for money and merchandise.

"She wanted to exchange them, the clerk said no," Nolte said. "Our suspect left, got a gun, and forced the exchange, which would be a robbery."

The clerk gave the woman cash and a pair of shoes. The woman got into a car and drove away.

Officers said the clerk gave a detailed suspect and vehicle description to police. A vehicle matching the description was found in the 1400 block of N. Fountain a short time later.

Authorities questioned a woman in the area, then took her into custody. Jail records indicate Tenacious Sargent was booked on aggravated robbery charges.

The value of the shoes and amount of cash taken was not available.

Police said a 15-year-old boy was with the woman during the incident. Investigators said the boy did not play a role in the crime.
