A Wichita man has pleaded guilty to robbing a restaurant, then shooting at a police officer earlier this year.

In court Monday, 55-year-old Paul F. Sifuentez pleaded guilty to robbery, brandishing a firearm during a robbery, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

On June 7th, Sifuentez robbed the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in the 1200 block of South Woodlawn, threatening employees with a gun. He left the restaurant in a car driven by co-defendant, 49-year-old James L. Adamson of Wichita.

Wichita police caught up with the men a few blocks away, in a church parking lot in the 900 block of South Woodlawn. That's when Sifuentez leaned out the passenger window and fired three shots at one of the officers, shattering the glass on her patrol car door.

The men drove away, and their car was later found abandoned at an apartment complex in the 7000 block of East Lincoln. Sifuentez was found found hiding nearby, and Adamson was arrested later when he returned to his home in the 4400 block of East Boston.

Prosecutors plan to recommend 25 years in federal prison during his sentencing, which is set for February 17th.

Last week, Adamson pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the robbery. He's scheduled to be sentenced on January 30th.
