A Wichita teenager is recovering from a gunshot wound after a residential robbery turned violent.
Police say a 19-year-old man returned to his home in the 1500 block of N. Harvard after midnight Tuesday morning.
Three suspects, described as black men in their late teens, were outside the home, armed, and told the victim to go inside.
One of the suspects held the man at gunpoint, while two others searched the home for electronics and cash. Authorities said three children, ranging in age from 13-years-old to newborn, were also in the home at the time.
"At one point the victim confronted the suspect and struggled with him," said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita police department. "During the struggle the gun went off and shot the victim in the upper left thigh."
Authorities said the suspects ran out of the house after the shooting. They were last seen driving away in a gold Chevrolet suburban.
The victim drove himself to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover. No one else was hurt.
