Wichita Police are searching for a suspect accused of stealing personal belongings from a motel guest.

It happened at the Motel 6 near Kellogg and Webb Aug. 5.

Police said an elderly woman and a friend had stopped at the motel to rest while driving across the country to relocate. The woman was driving a pickup truck, packed with personal belongings, including a television, clothes and pictures. Officers said the woman put the truck keys on the bumper of the vehicle while removing items from under a tarp. She then left the keys on the bumper before heading to her room for the night.

Authorities said the suspect took the television from the woman’s pickup, and placed it in a room where he was staying. He later saw the keys on the bumper of the truck, and drove away with the woman’s belongings.

Officers later found the wrecked vehicle, with an empty bed. The woman did not have insurance for her belongings.

Police said the suspect was staying at the motel under a false name.
