A Wichita child has been placed in protective custody while police investigate his injuries as possible child abuse.

Police say a woman brought her 11-month-old son to a Wichita hospital around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. Doctors examined the boy, who had bruising to his head and ribs.

Police were notified due to the nature of the child's injuries. The woman told officers her son was injured by falling off of a bed, but hospital staff told investigators the injuries are not consistent with a fall.

The child will remain in protective custody while the investigation continues. No arrests have been made.

This is the third case of suspected child abuse investigated by Wichita Police this week.
