A 33 year-old Overland Park man has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana and to maintain a residence in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Federal prosecutors say Samuel Villeareal, III, was part of a drug trafficking ring that distributed $16.9 million worth of cocaine and marijuana in Kansas. Villeareal was one of 43 defendants charged in an indictment originally filed in October of 2011.
The ring originally purchased marijuana and cocaine from Mexico and Canada, but starting in 2007, began purchasing high-grade marijuana from operations in California.
Sentencing is set for a later date. Villeareal faces 10 years to life in federal prison and fine up to $10 million.
