Logsdon Sentenced To More Than 70 Years In Heckel Murder

Friday, December 21, 2012

Charles Logsdon requested not to be at Friday's sentencing. Even though the judge denied that request, he didn't actually make it through the sentencing before he had to be escorted out of the courtroom.

Just as prosecutors were starting to argue why Charles Logsdon should get the maximum sentence for Jennifer Heckel's murder, Logsdon jumped up and started shouting that he had to go.

“I did not do this. I did not do this. If you want to give me 500 years, give me 500 years,” Logsdon said.

Logsdon was escorted out of the courtroom and didn't return for the entire sentencing. So when Jennifer Heckel's family took the stand, they didn't get to face her murderer.

Her mother, father, and sister all spoke. They called the day she died a "nightmare" and her murder a "senseless act of evil."

They all asked that Logsdon be given life in prison and the judge agreed. He was given life in prison without the possibility of parole for 50 years. That combined with the prison time he'll serve for the other crimes he's convicted of and Charles Logsdon will be in prison for the next 73 years.

The man convicted of murdering a Hutchinson mother has been sentenced to more than 70 years in prison.

This afternoon, Charles Christopher Logsdon was given the maximum sentence on all counts including first degree murder for the 2011 death of Jennifer Heckel.

In all, he was sentenced to 73 years in prison.

Police had said Logsdon and another man went to the wrong house while trying to collect on a drug debt, and shot her several times. A jury found Logsdon guilty last month. His co-defendant, Billy Joe Craig, is still awaiting trial.
