Police Release New Information In Grocery Store Robbery

A 25-year-old man remains in critical condition following Tuesday's robbery and suicide attempt at a Walmart Neighborhood Market in southeast Wichita.

Police say the suspect walked into the store located at Harry and Webb Tuesday afternoon, with gauze wrapped around his hands and neck. He handed a note to the pharmacist demanding a large list of prescription narcotic pain medications.

The pharmacist alerted other staff to call police, and when they arrived the suspect ran out the store's back door. He dropped what turned out to be a pellet gun in a field behind the store and pulled out a knife.

As officers approached, the man began slashing his own neck and one of his wrists. Police used a taser to subdue the man, and he was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

Police say he is expected to recover and will be arrested and booked once released from the hospital.

No one else was hurt.

Police say a man is in critical condition after cutting himself during a failed robbery attempt of a southeast Wichita grocery store. It happened just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart Neighborhood Market near Harry and Webb.

Officials say the man went to the store's pharmacy, pulled a handgun and old a worker that he was robbing the store. Management was alerted and they called 911.

The man then left the store without getting any money and ran in to a field south of of the building. He was still carrying the gun, which officials say appeared to be some kind of pellet gun.

When officers approached the man in the field he threw down the gun and pulled out a knife. Officials say the man then cut his own throat and wrist.

Officers used a Taser to subdue the man. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. No one else was hurt.

The incident is under investigation.

A man has been taken to the hospital with stab wounds following a robbery at a southeast Wichita business.

The injuries occurred after a crime at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, near Harry and Webb, just before 1:30 p.m.

A 20-year-old man was found in the area not breathing. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition with injuries to his neck and wrist.

It is unknown whether the victim was a suspect or witness in the robbery.
