Kansas Man Receives Maximum Sentence In Farmer's Death

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

A Salina man has been sentenced to life in prison in the slaying of a north-central Kansas farmer.

Delbert McBroom was sentenced Monday in the shooting death of 55-year-old Jeffrey Scott Noel, who was killed in March 2008 after
apparently interrupting a burglary at his Portis home.

McBroom was also sentenced to 34 months for aggravated burglary and 13 months for burglary, and to pay restitution of more than $14,000.

McBroom continued to insist that he was not involved in Noel's death. He says no witnesses or evidence placed him at the scene of the murder.

McBroom was the second man convicted Noel's death. Kenneth Wilson previously was sentenced to 50 years in the killing.
