Wichita is the second worst city in the United States for allergy sufferers this year, according to the Weather Channel's list of Top 10 Allergy Cities.
The rankings released Thursday say the wind Kansas is known for plays a role in Wichita being No. 2 on the list.
Pollens can travel as fast as 700 miles under ideal weather and wind conditions, according to the Weather Channel. Allergy seasons in Wichita also overlap, adding to the misery for those who suffer from seasonal allergies.
Grass allergy season typically occurs from late May to early October each year. Weed allergy season arrives in mid-September and lingers into November. Ragweed is the allergen causing Kansas allergy sufferers the most grief.
Louisville, Ky., was ranked No. 1 on the list of Top 10 Allergy Cities because that region does not typically see its first frost until November.
The rest of the list includes:
No. 3 Knoxville, Tenn.
No. 4 Jackson, Miss.
No. 5 McAllen, Texas
No. 6 Dayton, Ohio
No. 7 Oklahoma City, Okla.
No. 8 Memphis, Tenn.
No. 9 Madison, Wis.
No. 10 Baton Rouge, La.
