A Hutchinson man is in jail after allegedly running over and seriously injuring a Wichita man. It happened just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 5500 block of E. 69th Street in Hutchinson.

Officers and emergency crews responded to a report that a person had been run over and that a possible disturbance was is progress among the near 30 people reportedly at the scene.

Capt. Wayne Baughman, Jr. of the Reno County Sheriff’s Office says a Ford pickup, driven by 46-year-old Tommy Rockey, drove up a small hill, lost control and drove toward a crowd of people.

Everyone but 24-year-old Daron O’Malley got out of the way, Baughman says. O’Malley was run over and suffered serious injuries.

He was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he is currently listed in fair condition.

Rockey was booked into the Reno County Jail for reckless aggravated battery.

Baughman says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
