UPDATE: Newton standoff ends with one in custody

NEWTON, Kan. — A standoff in a Newton neighborhood has ended with one man in custody. Officers had surrounded a house in the 500 block of East 6th Street.

Newton Police said the man worked at Norcraft, 831 S. Columbus, where he allegedly threatened to hurt three of his co-workers and commit suicide this morning. Thirty minutes later police located him at his home. He was in the home with three adults and two children. Police were able to get the others out of the house safely.

The man eventually complied with police orders to come out of the house. He was taken into custody without incident.
