SALINA, Kan. — The 14-year-old sister of a girl found stabbed to death late last week could be tried as an adult. Sierra Niehaus appeared in Saline County court this morning where she heard the first degree murder charge against her.
During the brief hearing prosecutors said they would consider trying Sierra Niehaus as an adult.
Galazia Niehaus, 13, was killed at her home in rural Saline County last Friday morning. No motive for the killing has been made public.
Sierra Niehaus said nothing during the court hearing. No family members were in the courtroom.
Sierra Niehaus is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Junction City until her next court hearing September 5th.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office and the KBI are investigating the stabbing death of a teenage girl.
According to Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski, a 13-year-old girl was stabbed to death at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday at a home on Remington Road. That's in a rural area northwest of Salina.
She's been identified her as Galazia Niehaus. The sheriff wouldn't confirm that an arrest had been made, but earlier the Salina Post reported the victim's sister has been taken into custody as a suspect.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting at the scene.
