The American Red Cross has closed the emergency shelter set up for residents who were displaced by the south Wichita standoff.

Officials said in a news release that the shelter at Ruth Clark Elementary in the 1900 block of West 55th Street South closed at noon Saturday. The Red Cross said it will continue to "work individually, as needed, with persons displaced by the stand-off."

As of early Saturday afternoon, all of building 7 and part of building 8 at Southlake Village Apartments are open. Apartments 1 through 6 in building 8 are still closed.

“We are continuing to work with law enforcement, evacuees and other community partners to meet emergency needs,” said Bryan Saindon, Regional Disaster and Program Officer.

Anyone needing services that has not already contacted the Red Cross should call 316-219-4000.
