Ottawa Woman Pleas to Running Prescription Drug Ring

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom has announced that a 60-year-old Ottawa woman has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute prescription drugs. In her plea, Connie Edwards admitted to operating a prescription drug trafficking ring that distributed oxycodone, hydrocodone, methadone, morphine and other prescription drugs in Ottawa.

The ring operated from November of 2007 until February of this year when investigators from the Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit. In 2009, authorities say William Thomas Powell died from a lethal combination of drugs supplied by Edwards.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2013. Prosecutors and defense attorneys have agreed to a sentence of 25 years a forfeiture judgment of $632,930.
