An Abilene man was killed and his teenage son was hurt in an accident in Geary County. It happened just before noon Thursday on Interstate 70 just east of Junction City.
Kansas Highway Patrol officials say John Kaneaster, 48, of Abilene, was driving a pickup truck westbound on Interstate 70 when he went off the roadway and into the median. The vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lanes of I-70, across an exit ramp and into a ditch. The truck then struck a tree and rolled on its top.
Officials say Kaneaster died at the scene. His 13-year-old son who was visiting from Florida was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.

A man is dead following a rollover accident near Junction City. It happened just before noon Thanksgiving, just east of Grandview Plaza on Interstate 70.
Our sister station WIBW reports the driver of a Chevy Silverado was travelling west on the interstate when for an unknown reason, crossed the center median into eastbound traffic before leaving the road and rolling over into a line of trees.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He is believed to be a man in his 40's from the Abilene area, but the Kansas Highway Patrol has not officially identified him.
His passenger was taken to the hospital in Junction City for treatment. WIBW reports that they suffered fractures, but the extent of their injuries was not released.
State troopers are still investigating the accident.
