TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A man was killed early Saturday morning after he was struck by an Amtrak train in Topeka.
Shawnee County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to Southwest University and Southwest Topeka Boulevard in reference to a pedestrian who was struck by a southbound train, which occurred around 12:40 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the train crew. They reported that they saw the man running alongside the railroad before he was hit.
Crew members signaled their horn, activated emergency brakes, and came to a complete stop.
Deputies located the man north of University along the west side of the tracks. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. His name has not been released.
No passengers on the train were injured during the incident.
