After giving hundreds of people the chance to fly, a local man saw his dream of flying once more come true Sunday.

Veteran Enos Parris, 81, flew for years until age grounded him. Since then he's wanted to fly again. Local airport managers jumped at the chance to help his son make that dream come true. They offered to take Enos up in a plane, free of charge.

"I know it's one of his passions and I just wanted to give him a good birthday gift," John Parris said.

It's been more than three decades since Enos Parris climbed into a plane. He learned to fly in 1956 just after getting out of the army. His first plane was a '57 Cessna 172.

He loved flying so much, he gave anybody he could a chance at flight.

"I loved to do it for them," Enos Parris said. "I just wanted everybody else to know how good it is to fly."

But as he's aged, he has stopped flying. Knowing how much it would mean to his father to fly again, John Parris drove up from Burleson, Tex. to help Enos soar back into the sky.

"I love him a lot and I just wanted to lighten his heart a bit," John said. "I could tell when he took off he was smiling big, bigger than he has smiled in a long time."

Managers at the Augusta Municipal Airport along with the Great Plains Aero Club (GPAC) jumped at the opportunity to help give Enos at least one more flight.

As luck would have it, the club just happens to have a Cessna 172 that is just two years off the model Enos used to fly.

"This is why we do what we do," GPAC President Curtis Mead. "You hope someone does that for you in your old age."

After getting Enos set up in the plane, a pilot from the GPAC lifted the aircraft into the sky. Enos even flew the plane for part of the flight.

"I was a little bit rusty," Enos said. "But it was just like old times!"

Smiling from ear-to-ear, Enos said the flight meant the world to him.

"It means my son loves me a lot," Enos said.
