Federal prosecutors say a Kansas man already being held in Larned State Hospital's Kansas Sexual Predator Treatment Program committed child sex crimes while in custody.

Mark Brull, 38, has been charged with one count of attempting to entice a 14-year-old child to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Friday.

A co-defendant, Ryan Dancosse, 39, Wichita, is charged with one count of receiving and distributing child pornography. Prosecutors say the crimes happened in April and May 2011.

The indictment alleges that while Brull was in the state hospital he communicated with the child and received child pornography on a computer via the Internet.

Brull was involuntary committed to Larned in 1999 under the Kansas Sexually Violent Predator Act.

If convicted, Brull faces a between 25 and 60 years in federal prison and fines of $500,000. Dancosse will face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 if he is convicted.

The investigation was conducted by the Kanas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Wichita Police Department and the Sudbury, Mass., Police Department.
