Two horses were killed and a third injured in two separate accidents south of Arkansas City early Wednesday morning.

The first accident happened about 6 a.m. Wednesday on northbound U.S. Highway 77 and 322nd Road, about a mile north of the Kansas-Oklahoma state line. The woman driving that car was pinned inside the vehicle, but she was not hurt. Cowley County Sheriff's Deputies say the horse that was struck was killed.

Another accident was reported in the same area about five minutes later. A southbound car struck a horse, which had to be euthanized. That driver also was not hurt.

A third horse was injured and was being treated for its injuries, the Sheriff's Office said.
