WICHITA, Kan. - The unemployment rate is dropping in Wichita, and across the country. Yet tens of thousands of people in Kansas remain out of work. A hiring fair Tuesday could open the way for some of them to have jobs again.

Staffmark is conducting the fair for Johnson Controls, and it's being billed as the largest recruitment event of the year. Managers and supervisors are expected to be on hand for one-on-one on-the-spot interviews.

JCI has 200 positions available. They include assembly and forklift positions. Johnson controls prefers you have at least six months of continuous work in manufacturing. But it promises to consider all kinds of work history.

The fair will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Best Western Wichita North, located at 915 East 53rd Street North, just off Interstate 135.

At the end of 2012, the Wichita area had a 6% unemployment rate. At the end of 2013, it was down to 5.2%. But more than 15,000 metro Wichita residents still were shown as unemployed.
