Our late April snow might have some calling Kansas weather whacky.
Salina resident Jane Gates asks, "It's snowing end of April. Why? Why is that?" Her friend Carolyn Wedel could only respond, "It's not your typical April. We're going to go build a snow man."
For those in central Kansas the snow fell on warm enough pavement that roadways melted fairly quickly. But it was unusual to drive up and down Salina streets and see snow covered yards, cars and houses.
Curtis McCreary and his wife of Emporia were on their way to Colorado but chose a different route after consulting with KDOT. McCreary described the snow as.. "Well crazy, isn't it? Snowing. And it should be about 70 degrees and nice and warm. I think we're going to go straight to summer from winter."
Salina resident Catherine Williams says, "Welcome to Kansas where the weather's made up and the seasons don't matter."
At least this month her assessment seems on target.
