Authorities say a Fort Riley soldier was killed Thursday evening in a one-vehicle accident in Manhattan.

Riley County Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol were called around 6:15 pm to a motorcycle accident in the 2000 block of McDowell Creek Road.

KHP said Jose Laureanomercado, 29, of Manhattan, was driving his motorcycle northbound on McDowell Creek Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, drove onto a gravel shoulder, lost control and fell off the bike, hitting the guardrail. He was ejected off the bike. Troopers believe speed was a factor in the crash.
