Construction of the new terminal at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport is still on schedule, thanks in part to mild weather conditions at the end of 2012.

Construction began in October, and since then construction crews have cleared the project site, relocated and extended utilities, mass-excavated the site, began foundations, installed conduits and pipes beneath the building and began tunnel construction. The tunnel will be used as an emergency storm shelter and will provide access to the new terminal building from the maintenance division. In addition, approximately 40 percent of the new concrete foundations have been completed.

Three webcams have also been installed so the public can observe construction of the new terminal. The cameras are located on the existing terminal roof, the DoubleTree Hotel roof and a camera pole near Parking Lot C. Images for those cameras can be found here.

Construction is also set to begin soon on the parking garage and rental car facilities project. Those projects are expected to be complete prior to the opening of the terminal.

The terminal project is funded from airport concession revenue, lease revenue and federal grants collected from aviation user fees. No local tax dollars are being used.

The new terminal is expected to open in the Spring of 2015.
